Due to Ukraine’s active integration into the European Union, there is an urgent need to revise many acts and regulations in the field of construction. This has led to the replacement of many norms that have been in force since Soviet times. The introduction of new state standards in Ukraine (DBN, DSTU) was aimed at improving energy efficiency, saving natural and economic resources.

In 2012-2013, the following were adopted:

  • DBN B.2.5-64: 2012 ‘Internal water supply and sewerage’,
  • DBN B.2.5-74: 2013 ‘Water supply. external networks and structures”
  • DBN B.2.5-75: 2013 ‘Sewage. External networks and structures ‘.

These norms set the basic requirements for the design of new systems and schemes of water supply and sewerage, reconstruction and technological re-equipment of existing buildings and networks, taking into account the requirements of European standards for hot and cold water supply systems.

The new standards were developed to:

  • elimination of errors and ambiguities of interpretation of separate points of SNiPs;
  • making changes to outdated provisions in accordance with modern conditions, the nature of economic relations and current legislation;
  • taking into account improved materials;
  • development of technologies in the field of construction.

The new norms have reduced the estimated rate of water consumption per person, which significantly affects the material consumption of water and sewer systems.
